Of particular interest this week:

Copper – on the verge of recovery.   … and other metals, Ni & Al.

Coal – Export infrastructure in Qld still out.  Mines suffered little damage.

Steel – April 2017 Short Run Outlook.  China’s slowing outlook outstripped by the rest of the world growing faster.

SUMMARY

Copper  Copper (& other metals) on the verge of a recovery.

Nickel  Battery demand growth should be factored into Ni supply/demand.  It is not all about stainless steel.

Zinc & Lead  Zinc’s application in agriculture, appears likely to grow, and promote growth.

Tin  Major tin producers adopt new compliance code of conduct (along conflict minerals lines).

Aluminium  Chinese capacity cuts, plus good economic news, boosting Al prices.

Gold  Gold jewellery sales in India are expected to rise sharply on Akshaya Tritiya.

Platinum & Palladium  Short supply to be outpaced by increasing demand.

Oil  No fundamental evidence to justify this week’s selloff in oil prices.

Coal  HCC talks by end May?.  Bowen Basin infrastructure still out.

Iron Ore  Price at 6mo low.  Some analysts say selloff is overdone.

Shipping  Cape rates still down after Cyclone Debbie. Panamax rates up on Atlantic Grain.

General
World Steel – April 2017 Short Run Outlook – rest of the world growth outstrips Chinese growth.
